Preventing, protecting, proactive.
Regular checkups ensure that problems are detected at the earliest possible stage, enabling the Farleigh Dental team to tailor treatment to each patient’s needs.
We recommend a checkup every 6 to 18 months. When was your last checkup?

A deep clean for your teeth
Scaling and polishing - also called "professional mechanical plaque removal" or PMPR - is a deep-clean for your teeth.
Scaling:
- Removes plaque and calculus from the teeth and gums.
- Completed using specialist scaling instruments which are completely safe.
- Disrupts bacterial biofilm that develops on teeth and underneath the gums.
Polishing
- A deep clean for your teeth.
- Improves tooth appearance by removing marks and stains on the teeth, and around dental work such as fillings and crowns.
- Polishing is usually done with a special handpiece and polishing paste.
- Routine cleaning with a standard scale & polish is sufficient to prevent and treat mild gum disease.

We have the technology, we can rebuild it...
We get it. Most people don't like getting fillings. Usually a filling is needed because of a cavity in the tooth caused by damage from erosion. At Farleigh, we're experts at providing fillings and restorations. We'll explain to you why you should have it done and the consequences of an untreated cavity.
Natural tooth-coloured fillings are an effective method of restoring teeth that have been damaged either accidentally or through wear and tear, but sometimes we have to use a stronger amalgam for larger restorations.
There are some common misconceptions and untruths (yes, "fake news!") about amalgam fillings that you may have seen on social media or elsewhere, but they are safe to use and to have. We wouldn't use them if they were unsafe. You can find out more on the link below to the Oral Health Foundation, a respected impartial charity dedicated to improving oral health (the link will open in a new window).

Helping you take the best care of your teeth
Our brillliant dental hygienists provide a number of services which include:
- Demonstration of effective brushing techniques to remove plaque without wearing down teeth or damaging gums.
- Explaining gum disease and its primary and secondary causes.
- Explaining how gum disease can complicate other health problems, such as heart disease.
- Prevention of tooth decay and erosion.
- Dietary advice to help protect teeth.
- Preventing bad breath.
- Helping to stop and prevent bleeding gums during brushing.
- Removal of plaque and harder tartar.

A quick guide to dental x-rays
On your visit, we may tell you that we need to take an x-ray of your teeth. Dental x-rays help us to make a diagnosis, to plan treatment, and monitor the health of your teeth. They involve the use of ionising radiation (X-rays) to produce detailed images of teeth, gums and jaws. Everyone receives ionising radiation every day from radioactivity in the air, food we eat and even from space. The amount of radiation used for dental X-rays is similar to your everyday exposure over a few days, so the risks associated with them are very low for both adults and children. You can read more about dental x-rays with our PDF poster - click here.

Philips Zoom!™ whitening treatments
Whitening treatments are among the most common cosmetic dental procedures in the UK. Though many whitening options are now available that include over the counter products, professional dentist-supervised whitening treatments remain the recommended method for safely restoring discoloured teeth.
Farleigh Dental offers Philips Zoom!™ in-clinic whitening treatments which help to reduce discolouration and stains. Results can be up to six shades whiter. We also offer at-home whitening kits, ideal if you can't spare the time for in-clinic treatment.
A whiter, brighter smile could help to boost self-confidence and self-esteem.

Dental Veneers
Veneers are thin porcelain or composite laminates that are bonded directly to a tooth. They are an option for closing gaps or covering discoloured teeth that do not respond well to whitening procedures. Veneers can be used as an alternative to repair light to medium damage to a tooth (especially the front teeth), where a single denture or bridge may not be recommended.

Minding the gap
Crowns
A crown is a prosthetic dental cap which completely covers - or caps - a tooth or dental implant. Crowns are often needed when a large cavity threatens the ongoing health of a tooth and the damage can’t be repaired using a regular filling.
Bridges
Dental bridges are prosthetic teeth which are fused between two porcelain crowns to fill in areas left by missing teeth. This procedure is used to replace one or more missing teeth. Unlike dentures, bridges are fixed and can’t be be removed by the patient.

Dentures - the substitooths
There are many reasons why people lose their teeth. An accident or illness, damaged by decay, and teeth can even simply fall out due to gum disease or the advances of age.
Whatever the reason, dentists usually recommend that you get your teeth replaced. If you do not replace your teeth, it can lead to problems with eating, speech, swallowing, and further wear and tear on any remaining teeth. Dentures are one of the most common ways of replacing missing teeth. Dentures are related to crowns, bridges and implants but are often able to be removed by the patient. Each set of dentures is unique, custom-designed for each individual patient.

About Cosmetic Reshaping & Bonding
Reshaping
Tooth reshaping, also known as “contouring”, involves your dentist removing small strips of tooth enamel to change the appearance of a tooth.
While this can be done for personal preference reasons, usually it is carried out to resolve issues such as a chipped tooth, irregularly-shaped teeth or to amend a slight overlap in the teeth.
Bonding
Bonding reshapes a tooth by applying tooth-coloured composite layers to improve its appearance. Your dentist is able to choose from a range of resin colours to match the natural colour of your teeth. Bonding helps to cover up and repair chips, gaps, crooked, cracked, stained and misshapen teeth. It's quick and painless, usually in a single appointment.
